In his time away from WWE, Albano capitalized on his newfound celebrity. ![]() Once the Rock n' Wrestling phenomenon began to wind down, Albano led the British Bulldogs to the World Tag Team Championship in 1986 before leaving WWE. After a lengthy rivalry with the singer (which saw Lauper's pal Wendi Richter win the Women's Championship from Albano's client The Fabulous Moolah), Captain Lou apologized to Lauper and became an instant fan favorite. Thus began the legendary "Rock 'n' Wrestling" Era in WWE, which combined with Hulkamania, helped launch WWE into a new stratosphere in the mid-1980s. In 1983, he appeared in Cyndi Lauper's music video for "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and later claimed to be the catalyst to Lauper's success. Saito, The Executioners and The Moondogs were just of few of the other teams to become World Tag Team Champions under Captain Lou's guidance.Īfter 15 years of being one of the most hated men in sports-entertainment, however, Albano had a change of heart. Several of his championship duos featured Hall of Famers, including fellow 1996 Hall of Fame inductees The Valiant Brothers and 2007 inductees The Wild Samoans. In the span of 20 years, he managed 15 different teams to the World Tag Team Championship, earning the nickname "The Guiding Light" and a record that may never be broken. Having been a tag team star himself, though, it was in managing duos where Albano excelled. He would lead Don Muraco, Greg Valentine and Pat Patterson to the Intercontinental Championship but never again tasted a World title. Koloff's reign lasted only three weeks, and despite managing several other Hall of Famers, Koloff was the only World Champion Albano ever managed. This made him perhaps the most hated man in the promotion, but in 1971, he accomplished his goal when protégé Ivan Koloff defeated Sammartino in Madison Square Garden to end the Italian champion's reign of seven-plus years. Albano soon began teaming with Tony Altimore together they were known as "The Sicilians." After coming to WWE in the 1960s, they defeated the legendary Bruno Sammartino & Spiros Arion to win the WWE United States Tag Team Championship in 1967.Īfter the breakup of The Sicilians, Albano transformed himself into a manager, making it his sole mission to end the lengthy WWE Championship reign of Bruno Sammartino. After a stint in the United States Army, he began his sports-entertainment career in Canada in 1953. With his open Hawaiian shirts, outrageous facial hair and trademark rubber bands hanging from his cheek, Captain Lou may not have looked like much of a success, but his record speaks for itself.Īlbano was an excellent athlete as a youth, attending the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship. India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare published updated guidance April 28 that says patients with mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 infections should consider taking ivermectin once a day for three to five days. Joseph Lewnard, an assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of California-Berkeley, said other factors likely include "the declining proportion of Indians who are susceptible to infection owing to the high attack rates observed throughout much of the country, as well as expanded vaccination efforts." Hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin not proven COVID-19 treatments The primary reason for the decline in COVID-19 cases is unclear, but experts say it may have to do with adherence to guidelines like social distancing and mask-wearing. Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases continue to spread in India's countryside, where testing is limited and health care providers have fewer resources. However, Sean has a checkered past with addiction, and if those issues ever reappear, I suspect Fiona won’t be able to resist wanting to fix him.Īfter five seasons of blasé boyfriends, I just want Fiona to be partnered with someone equally dynamic and complex. Maybe that’s what Fiona needs, considering the only charismatic guy she dabbled with (Robbie) left her sloshed at a gas station in Sheboygan. I guess Fiona did away with the adorable Gus? Though Sean seems like a nice enough guy and he really wants to see Fiona do well - just like all of her oddly tolerant men - he’s a bit vanilla. (I want to believe Carl is simply ambivalent by nature of his upbringing, but his determination to march toward the dark side leads me to believe otherwise.) The realization that he has settled into his darkness, complete with cornrows and an N-word peppered vernacular, hits Fiona right in the gut, and she restrains herself to keep moving forward.Īlso: Shameless has jettisoned several characters (Sheila, Sammi, Bianca, Gus, Steve/Jimmy/Jack), but Carl’s large black friend seems primed as a point of conflict at Chez Gallagher. In a subtly wrenching scene played between Emmy Rossum and Ethan Cutkosky, it’s clear that Carl has fully shed his baby-bully status and is now a full-blown sociopath. But even if Shameless refuses to look at Carl’s year in jail, its weight is clear when see how Fiona reacts upon his arrival home. The episode shirks any detail about his experiences behind bars, barely glancing at his inferred rivalry with the swastika-emblazoned Chuckie. He’s a mere 14 years old, yet his “White Carl” swagger is that of a full-grown gangster, rendered even scarier by the fact that he’s less a caricature than an embodiment of the culture he embraced in juvie. The most disturbing set-up for season six arrives with Carl’s reintroduction to the free world. I have a difficult time imagining Debbie becoming a mother, but then again, I had a difficult time imagining Debbie craving such strange chaos. I’m interested to see whether she’ll come to her senses or if her pregnancy will go awry. ![]() Shameless never has a problem with driving action when it’s needed, but Debbie’s downfall seems hasty and strange, especially when her boyfriend Derek is shipped out to Florida and Debbie adamantly refuses Fiona’s guidance. Though I never saw Debbie skyrocketing to college like Lip, or falling madly (mutually) in love like Ian, I didn’t imagine that she would slide into irrational mediocrity so quickly. Perpetually swimming amid the wake of family drama, Debbie has always desperately longed for something to care for, a piece of the crazy universe she can call her own. She is a teenager with a burgeoning baby bump, but it still feels like she’s playing dress up with Wet & Wild lipstick. Since her multi-season run as the Gallaghers’ most compassionate and endearing character, Debbie has grown caustic. In both Debbie and Carl’s cases, adolescence truly is a construct they have chosen to forgo. Of course, there are other things going on “I Only Miss Her When I’m Breathing” - which we’ll get to soon - but the most interesting plotlines converge in the Gallagher teens’ struggles to leap directly from childhood to adulthood. Carl, now 14, has just spent a year in juvenile for drug trafficking. And lest we forget, Frank’s emotional young lover Bianca commits suicide to extinguish her battle with cancer.Īt the open of season six, the anxiety wrapped around Debbie and Carl has been realized into our worst fears, yet it’s somehow still dampered by reality. I’m thinking of the season five finale, “Love Songs (in the Key of Gallagher)” in which Debbie pees on a stick, Carl enters juvenile detention, Lip screws his professor, Fiona vacillates between lovers, and Ian refuses to take his lithium. Sometimes, however, the chaos is served in relatively manageable nibbles. The strongest of those forces is usually Murphy’s Law, which is doled out in roiling portions - in season four’s “There’s the Rub,” for example, baby Liam gets into Fiona’s coke stash, which sends him to ICU and Fiona to the big house. It requires two things: A suspension of disbelief, and a nuanced understanding of the forces that rule the Gallagher clan’s turbulent South Side universe. Watching Shameless often feels like sitting in the crowd while an amateur magician saws his pretty assistant in half. Sony also has the better port and control array. MP-CL1’s minimalist metal chassis is more timeless than PicoPro’s pleasant but decidedly plasticky design if I had to pick just one projector solely on overall look and feel, I’d go with Sony’s. Sony’s matte-finished aluminum-bodied unit weighs 7.4 ounces and Celluon’s glossy plastic PicoPro is around 6.4 ounces, a weight difference that isn’t practically noticeable. I knew Celluon had something special on its hands when I reviewed the $349 pocket-sized video projector PicoPro earlier this year: the Korean company known for laser-projecting keyboards released an iPhone 6 Plus-sized HD projector, capable of simulating a TV using lasers, a speaker, and a rechargeable battery. ![]() ![]() ![]() In other cases, the findings are certainly cause for concern and should be monitored closely or treated professionally. In some cases, the findings are part of normal spinal arthritic processes and are minor and inconsequential. I see the notation of wedging listed on many of the MRI reports you send to me for review. In these instances, preliminary imaging may appear to show a wedged condition, while more advanced imaging will reveal that the actual vertebrae are normal, but the alignment is so out of normal position as to make the spinal bones appear wedged in certain locations. Wedging can also be misdiagnosed in rare instances when muscular spasms pull vertebral levels very close together. Wedged vertebrae are also common in many scoliosis patients and those with advanced forms of abnormal lordosis, kyphosis and are even seen in a few extreme cases of spondylolisthesis. This congenital condition is also commonly called a hemivertebra, particularly when the vertebral body is truly underdeveloped and triangular in shape. Many are congenital or developmental conditions which were apparent from birth or developed as part of the patient’s specific spinal anatomy. Not all wedge shaped vertebrae are due to fracture. Severe wedge fractures have the potential to cause spinal instability. In other instances, bone fragments may impinge upon or compress nerve roots in the lateral recess or in the neuroforaminal space, possibly enacting a pinched nerve. In other cases, a wedge fracture can cause bone fragments to enter the central spinal canal, potentially causing spinal stenosis or even spinal cord injury. In many cases, wedge fractures in older patients are completely asymptomatic and may go undiagnosed for a long time. This type of fracture can occasionally be the result of traumatic injury in any patient, but is far more typical in elderly patients as a compression fracture. This essay profiles hemivertebra conditions in the backbone and their potential effects on the form and function of the spine.Ī vertebral wedge fracture is one possible causes of irregular shaped spinal bones. The condition can be expressed from incredibly mild to extreme, with a variety of symptoms to be expected ranging from none at all to complete disability. Wedging can be easily diagnosed using virtually any form of spinal imaging, including x-ray, CT scan or MRI technologies. This means that instead of being flat with the top and bottom of the vertebral body being basically parallel, the vertebra is instead lower on one side and higher on the other side, forming an asymmetrical trapezium or a triangle shape, instead of a parallel rectangle shape. Vertebral wedging is a general term used to describe spinal bones which demonstrate an atypical shape, similar to that of a wedge. ![]() |
